Words and Tears
My good friend Andy Greig died peacefully at home recently after battling Osteosarcoma (Bone Cancer).
I sit here trying to sum up or write some fitting words, prose or comment on someone I have known for only a few years, but grew to know as a good friend, I know it is an “impossible” task and my burbling will fall far short of what Andy deserves.
Some of you may have seen or followed Andy’s blog at http://www.grumpyoldgit.org/ where he bravely documented his journey from diagnosis, through surgery and his treatment, including his fear of needles - which is not a particularly “useful” phobia if you have a medical condition, is it?!
Andy lived a few doors down the road with his wife Sara and 4 children and our families often enjoyed each others company at BBQs or popping around for a “cuppa”. Andy ran his own Graphic design business and occasionally did some design work for GeoSIMs website and literature. He was (oh how I hate using the past tense) and integral part of our lives.
Andy was a keen photographer and some of his photos can be seen on his BLOG . He was a bit of a gadget “fiend” and an Apple/MAC/iPhone “enthusiast” - (am I politely trying to say “geek”?). He enjoyed sailing, winter sports, good food, wine, music, Majorca and good design. He also asked “why were The Beatles so popular?” and said to me once that U2 weren’t “that good”. Andy always had a view or opinion on things and always up for some good “banter” Andy was unique and genuinely a “jolly good bloke” who will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Gone in body, but with us in Spirit….
